Dr. Behr GmbH Calculates Its 2024 Carbon Footprint in Accordance with International Standards

Dr. Behr GmbH has calculated its Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) for the 2024 financial year based on the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

The greenhouse gas inventory aims to transparently document the emissions covered by the assessment, identify major sources of emissions, and provide a basis for developing targeted measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Compared to previous years, the scope of the assessment has been significantly expanded. For the first time, additional categories of indirect Scope 3 emissions have been included. These comprise upstream transportation and distribution, business travel, employee commuting, and selected purchased goods and services.

The assessment covers direct emissions from the company’s own operations (Scope 1), indirect emissions from purchased energy (Scope 2), and selected additional indirect emissions along the value chain (Scope 3).

The largest share of the reported greenhouse gas emissions was attributable to the Scope 3 categories included in the assessment. Upstream transportation and distribution were particularly significant contributors.

Direct Scope 1 emissions primarily resulted from the company’s vehicle fleet and heating systems.

For purchased electricity, no greenhouse gas emissions were reported under the market-based Scope 2 accounting approach, taking into account the electricity procured from renewable sources. This calculation refers exclusively to the market-based approach of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and does not imply that the physical electricity supply is emission-free.

In addition, Dr. Behr GmbH has supported climate protection projects through carbon offsetting measures relating to the reported emissions. These measures are considered separately from the greenhouse gas inventory and do not reduce the emissions actually generated or reported.

By calculating its Corporate Carbon Footprint, Dr. Behr GmbH is improving the data available for assessing its operational greenhouse gas emissions. The results help identify relevant emission sources and evaluate potential measures to reduce emissions.
